Buffalo Springs Triathlon

The Buffalo Springs Lake triathlon was on Sunday June 24. It was a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike and 13.1 mile run. I was 8 minutes faster than last year on the bike, but paid for it on the run, where I was 4 minutes slower than last year. Placed 3rd in the 45-49 age group, in a time of 4:53:20.

One person from each age division at Buffalo Springs gets to qualify for the Hawaii Ironman triathlon. The winner of my age group didn't want to take the slot (he'd been several times before), so it passed to 2nd place. The 2nd place guy had already qualified, so it passed to me. I said no thanks, so it passed to the 4th place finisher, who seemed happy to take it.

Here is a link to the results (with splits) for the top finishers in male 45-49 age group.

And here is a photo that Lisa took of the top 3 finishers in my age group. We are all laughing because none of us would take the Hawaii slot. That's me on the left, Tim Terwey in the middle, and Rob Chance on the right.

Tuesday night bike time trials

Last night I did the Tuesday night bike time trial. 8 miles in 18:24, which is OK for me. Placed 6th overall, but pretty well among the old guys. It was pretty tough conditions: 94 degrees and humid, heat index of 103.
